DAYBREAK PICTURES

Daybreak Pictures was formed in 2007 by Executive Producers David Aukin and Hal Vogel and has forged a reputation for creating high profile and critically acclaimed drama.

It is currently in production on Endgame, a new film directed by Pete Travis for Channel 4, starring William Hurt, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Derek Jacobi. Previous productions include Peter Kosminsky’s BAFTA-winning, two-part drama Britz as well as Confessions of a Diary Secretary and The Trial of Tony Blair.

Before founding Daybreak, David and Hal ran the drama department of Mentorn Television where they also produced the BAFTA-winning The Government Inspector, A Very Social Secretary and The Hamburg Cell. The company remains part of the Mentorn Group with Mentorn CEO John Willis on the board of directors and Tinopolis MD Arwel Rees as Chairman.

    David Aukin

    David is one of the UK’s most respected drama producers.  Over a period of eight years at Channel 4, he commissioned more than a hundred films including Brassed Off, The Crying Game, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Madness of King George, Secrets and Lies, Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and Welcome to Sarajevo. His latest feature film was the Academy Award-nominated Mrs Henderson Presents

     

    As Head of Drama at Mentorn, David executive produced The Government InspectorThe Hamburg Cell and A Very Social Secretary and following the launch of Daybreak, he has gone on to executive produce The Trial of Tony Blair, Confessions of a Diary Secretary and Britz.

  • Hal Vogel

    Hal Vogel

    Hal is currently producing Endgame, filming on location in the UK and South Africa. Previously, he produced The Trial of Tony Blair, A Very Social Secretary, Nostradamus and Sven: The Cash, The Coach and His Lovers. He was also the Executive Producer of Confessions of a Diary Secretary and Britz.

     

    Hal began his career as a documentary researcher with acclaimed satirist Jon Ronson and director Saul Dibb, before working at BFI production division (now the UK Film Council) where he helped set up The Script Factory. In 1997 he moved to Stone City Films, where he developed and produced innovative factual drama including the BAFTA-nominated King of Chaos, Newborn and Kidnap. He also penned and produced the award-winning BBC docu-drama Atomic Inferno.

  • Peter Kosminsky

    Peter Kosminsky

    Peter joined the BBC as General Trainee in 1980, working briefly as a Script Editor before moving to Current Affairs as a director. He joined Yorkshire Television in 1985 as a Producer/Director on the factual strand, First Tuesday.
     
    Since leaving YTV in 1995, Peter has worked as a freelance drama director. Television dramas include No Child of Mine by Guy Hibbert for ITV and Warriors and The Project by Leigh Jackson, both for BBC1. As a Writer/Director, Peter has also made The Government Inspector and Britz, both for Channel 4.
     
    Films include Wuthering Heights for Paramount, starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche, and White Oleander for Warner Bros, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Renée Zellweger.  
     
    Peter is a winner of the Alan Clarke Award for Outstanding Creative Contribution to Television, a BAFTA winner and a Fellow of the Royal Television Society.

    James Levison

    James came to work with David and Hal on A Very Social Secretary and helped launch Daybreak. He handles the company’s development slate and has worked on various projects including Britz and The Trial of Tony Blair.  James also recently  produced a remake of John Cleese’s renowned series of training videos with stars including Kris Marshall and James Nesbitt.
